As a business executive, Miller served as vice president of McGraw Hill, Inc., senior vice president of the New York Stock Exchange, senior vice president of CNA Financial Corporation, vice chairman and CFO of USG Corporation (United States Gypsum Company), and CEO of the Ideon Group.  He was director of 14 public and private companies.
